POSSIBLE UFO PROPULSION PHYSICS

Many speculations on UFO propulsion have been offered by researchers over the years.

By the 1970s, many UFO researchers with technical background, including Plantier, Oberth, Cramp, McCampbell, Hill etc contended that the reported UFO behaviour (e.g. incredible accelerations, silent supersonic flight etc) can be explained in a parsimonious fashion, if we assume one thing, a yet-unknown to us type of focused repulsive force that acts on all matter (i.e. an acceleration-type force field / "anti-gravity"). However, in previous decades there was little clue how such an effect might be generated.

I have been collecting ideas on possible UFO propulsion in my http://www.hyper.net/ufo/physics.html webpage.

Apparently UFO literature documents:

direct gravity-like effects
perception of rotation on UFOs, such as at the rim of saucer-/saturn-/sphere-shaped UFOs
saucers flying in a manner as if the drive is acting perpendicular to the plane of the disk
strong magnetic fields.
The commonly observed UFO shapes (disk, spheroid) are seemingly not chosen for aerodynamic purposes (considering when a discoid UFO wants to fly away fast, it tilts and flies with the plane of the disk directed forward). Very early in the UFO study, there was the idea that "saucers do their business at the rim" (APRO, Hill), the same area which generally is reported to rotate and glow.

In my mind, the public scientific research which seems most promising to be related to the UFO propulsion enigma, is the so-called Gravitomagnetism (the subject of field effects caused by moving matter) and experiments with rotating superconductors such as the ones by Tajmar or Podkletnov (which however are yet to be accepted by mainstream Physics) during the past 15 years. E.g. in Mar-2006, an experiment by Austrian physicist M.Tajmar et al funded by ESA (European Space Agency), reported generation of a toroidal (tangential, azimuthal) gravitational field in a rotating accelerated (time dependent angular velocity) superconducting Niobium ring. Some visual stuff :

No rotation: image familiar to everyone, physicists on TV explain gravity as curvature of the fabric of space-time, using a billiard-ball on a blanket
Rotating mass: Einstein's general relativity predicts that rotating bodies drag space-time around themselves in a phenomenon referred to as frame-dragging (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame-dragging ). Btw the frame-dragging effect is yet unconfirmed, until the Gravity Probe B (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_Probe_B) experiment is finished
"Boosted gravitomagnetism": there is some evidence of anomalous effects in experiments with spinning superconductors, well above what is predicted by GR (Tajmar et al experiment)

Since the 1950s, several UFO researchers have speculated that UFOs might be using "gravity-like" force fields (note that repulsive gravity doesn't exist according to our current understanding of Physics). In my 2008 e-mail "Ideas on possible UFO propulsion physics" I suggested that the scientific research which seems promising is the so-called Gravitomagnetism (the subject of field effects caused by moving matter) and experiments with rotating superconductors such as the ones by Tajmar and Podkletnov.

Further exploring the idea of the source of a tangential gravitational field, which might produce a redshift/blueshift, I've noticed the so-called "Gravitoelectric field" (see sketch below) in the Mar-2006 experiment by Austrian physicist M.Tajmar et al funded by ESA (European Space Agency). It reported generation of a tangential gravitational fields in a rotating accelerated (time dependent angular velocity) superconducting Niobium ring.
